Andy Sutton to Ottawa Done

Bryan Murray and company have made their move, and opted to make the small splash instead of the big one at this trade deadline.

Could Anton Volchenkov still be traded? Maybe. But it sure seems as though Murray decided against going all-in and went the depth route, bringing in the seasoned veteran Sutton to shore up the blueline.

Sutton isn't exactly going to fill up stat sheets on the regular, as he only has twelve points in fifty four games logged this season. What he does bring to the table is an enormous frame (6'6", 245) and a pretty strong skill set on the defensive side of the ice.

In return, the Ottawa Senators sent a 2nd round pick to the New York Islanders, which is almost meaningless - considering it's San Jose's, it'll probably be in the 56-60 range, and thus a relatively weak one.

Sutton is currently 2nd in the NHL in blocked shots and 8th in hits for all defensemen, and will be a UFA this summer.

Andy is going to be putting his body on every forward that comes in the zone, and will bring some more toughness to an Ottawa team that sometimes prefers to play passively on both ends. Don't believe me? Take a look yourself.
