They say history has a way of repeating itself.
The Calgary Flames know that all too well as they once again fell to the Ducks in Anaheim marking the 21st consecutive regular season game that's been the case.
As big of a story as that's been made out to be most of the Flames roster has been involved in very few of those losses. The bigger concern is the Flames leaving another two points on the table that they desperately needed.
Some notes on the loss:
1) If it felt like this game was more one-sided than the score would suggest that's because it was. The Ducks out-attempted the Flames 73-36, out-chanced them 38-19 and were the much better team for most of the night.
It's tough to win hockey games when a team featuring Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler, among others, gets twice the amount of scoring chances you do and the Flames found that out the hard way.
2) Credit where it's due: the Rickard Rakell - Ryan Getzlaf - Corey Perry line was absolutely dominant from start to finish.
T.J. Brodie entered this game playing outstanding hockey and he was absolutely crushed in territorial play from start to finish.
With Brodie on the ice the Getzlaf line out-attempted the Flames 19-3 at even-strength. That's tough to do.
3) Johnny Gaudreau has been dynamite on the top unit all season long but for my money the Sam Bennett - Mikael Backlund - Michael Frolik line has been the Flames' best and I'm not sure it's close.
It wasn't their best game in terms of possession but they still combined for three goals, five points and 11 shots while playing primarily against Ryan Kesler's line at even-strength.
4) Dougie Hamilton watch: he played at least 18 minutes for the fourth consecutive game after doing that just twice in 11 prior games.
5) I know there is still plenty season remaining but the Flames are getting dangerously close to digging themselves too big of a hole to climb out of (if they haven't already done so).
Only the Edmonton Oilers have less wins than Calgary and the Oilers have played one less game. They also are 17 goals better than the Flames in terms of goal differential and are without arguably their best player in Connor McDavid.
Barring a constant string of wins leading up to the deadline I think it's safe to say Jiri Hudler and Kris Russell, among others, will be moved.
