Let's be clear. I don't like discussing rumors, especially on a website as viewed as this. I only discuss rumors related to the Devils, or any team, if the rumor is floating around on various other websites, or if I'm told by an agent, player, or someone in an NHL front office. While nobody high ranked, or ranked at all, told me this rumor, it has been tossed around by quite a few people over the last little while, so it's worth discussing.

At this time, Kyle Turris to the Devils keeps coming up. Turris is demanding a boat load of money from the Coyotes, but according to Elliott Friedman of CBC, if Turris were to be traded from the Coyotes to another NHL team he would sign a much more reasonable contract.

There is no doubting that the Devils are a bit thin at center right now with Travis Zajac out, and Turris is naturally a good fit for the team, but what would be the price to get him, and how much would the Devils have to pay him to get him locked up?

Apparently, the Devils would have to give up a ton. Alexander Monaghan, a pretty credible writer for NHLHotStove.com, suggested that the Devils would have to give up a package of promising center Jacob Josefson and a 1st round pick to obtain Turris' services. If that is the case, I would want no part of him. At this point in their careers, Turris and Josefson are of similar value. Adding a first round pick, especially when the Devils need to forfeit one over the next few years, is just ridiculous.

I get that Turris has size and could be a great fit with Ilya Kovalchuk, but Josefson appears to be a pretty good fit for Kovalchuk as well. Trading a 1st along with Josefson as compensation for size is too much.

Will this happen? I highly doubt it. Has it even been discussed between Lou Lamoriello and Don Maloney? Who knows, but with all these rumors floating around, this is certainly a topic worth discussing.
