According to R.J. Broadhead of Sportsnet, the New Jersey Devils are close to reaching an agreement on an entry-level contract with defenseman Damon Severson.

Broadhead tweeted that the deal will be signed "either today or in the very near future."

Severson, 18, registered 37 points (seven goals, 30 assists) and 80 penalty minutes last season with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League.

The Devils 2nd round pick in the 2012 draft has been compared to Brent Seabrook by several WHL scouts I have talked to.
