On Hall, Bennett, Parenteau & more

1) It's safe to say this is what the New Jersey Devils envisioned when they acquired Taylor Hall. The switch Hall and Adam Henrique made was perfect and completely through off the Wild defense. Ryan Suter was defending Hall but stayed on his side when they made the switch. Meanwhile Mikko Koivu, who was shadowing Henrique, followed him leaving Hall wide open on the weak side of the ice. The rest is history.

2) If Beau Bennett can stay healthy I think he can make an impact this season. He has looked really good thus far and the numbers back that up as the Devils have controlled a team-high 60.5% of the shot attempts and a team-high 66.7% of the scoring chances with him on the ice at full-strength. He is skilled, he has a lot of speed and he can play anywhere in the lineup. Again, if he stays healthy he's definitely going to be worth the pick Ray Shero gave up to acquire him.

3) I still can't believe P.A. Parenteau was waived by the New York Islanders. He scored 20 goals, recorded 41 points and drove possession at an excellent rate last season. The Isles brought him in at a bargain price ($1.25 million) and dumped him before reaping the rewards. Now it is the Devils that will do so.

Through five games Parenteau has three points, 11 shots on goal and the Devils are controlling a hair under 54% of the 5 v 5 shot attempts with him on the ice. That the Devils were able to add another layer of legitimate depth for absolutely nothing is huge for them. In the event the Devils are out of the race come the trade deadline, which I don't expect to happen, they can move Parenteau for a couple picks like they did with Lee Stempniak last season.

4) Remember when people were concerned about Cory Schneider after a couple poor preseason starts? Well, he's making any doubter look silly now as he has allowed two goals or less in four of five starts and owns a remarkable .943 save percentage. He was my pre-season Vezina pick. So far, so good.
