Nico Hischier has taken the next step towards playing in the NHL: signing a contract.

The New Jersey Devils announced the 2017 1st overall pick has put pen to paper on a three-year entry-level deal that, as expected, comes with max salary ($925K per) and performance bonuses.

Tonight Hischier is scheduled to return to Switzerland for the remainder of the summer so, clearly, both sides wanted to take care of business before he left.

Hischier, obviously, was in New Jersey for development camp, where he flashed some of the high-end skill that made him the top pick in the draft.

On top of the signing, the Devils also announced Hischier will wear No. 13, as he did for the Halifax Mooseheads.
