Jimmy Vesey is officially a free agent and plenty of teams are putting on the full court press in hopes of securing his signature.

One of those teams is the New Jersey Devils, who somewhat surprisingly seem like a serious contender to land Vesey.

Vesey is expected to take the rest of the work week, at least, while he decides where he wants to start his NHL career.

In the mean time he will meet with several teams - starting today.

All of those teams have plenty to sell Vesey on. In the Devils' case they can sell Vesey on a steady dose of minutes right away, an improving team built around stars Taylor Hall and Cory Schneider, as well as the personal relationships he has with Assistant GM Tom Fitzgerald and Devils prospect Alexander Kerfoot.

Will that be enough to sway Vesey to sign in New Jersey? Maybe not given how many teams - and good ones at that - are interested in him.

That said, the Devils have a seat at the table and that's all they could have hoped for but a few months ago.
