If there was ever any doubt the New Jersey Devils planned on signing Damien Brunner, that all went away when he put pen to paper this afternoon.

The Devils have announced that they've agreed to terms with the 27-year-old winger on a two-year deal worth a total of $5 million (2.5M per season).

I think that's an excellent price for the Devils - especially with the cap going up next summer. $2.5 for a top-6 forward is a steal. Heck, it's a good price for a top-9 forward.

If you've been following my articles or Twitter at all for the last few month's, you'll know that I really like Brunner. He is a guy loaded with skill, creativity in the offensive zone and he brings some much needed speed to the Devils lineup.

He had an impressive camp with the Devils and seemed to gel quite nicely with Patrik Elias, so it wasn't at all surprising to see him signed.

Brunner combined for 17 goals and 35 points in 58 regular season and playoff games last season with Detroit. He instantly adds depth and more talent to a Devils lineup that has added a lot of it this summer.

Brunner may not be an Ilya Kovalchuk, but combined with the efforts of Michael Ryder, Ryane Clowe, Jaromir Jagr and Rusty Olesz, they will easily be able to make up for the offense they lost when he and David Clarkson left.

The Devils now have a huge log jam up front - on top of their plethora of defensemen - so it wouldn't be surprised to see a move or two in the coming days.
