The latest and greatest surrounding the New Jersey Devils leading up to the draft:

1) I know the Devils do like Clayton Keller. If he's available at 11th overall I expect he will be the pick unless someone ranked much higher somehow falls on their lap.

If Keller is off the board there are a couple other centers they'll look at (Tyson Jost and Michael McLeod). They do like Logan Brown but he will probably be taken prior.

I can't speak to how they feel about Mikhail Sergachev but I do know they like Jakob Chychrun and Charles McAvoy on defense.

2) About a week ago I reached out to Kyle Palmieri's agent, Steve Bartlett, and was told he and the Devils are in the very early stages of negotiations with regards to an extension.

I asked for an update on Thursday and was informed there is nothing new to report. The two sides are expected to talk again during draft weekend.

I don't anticipate any problems and, given the Devils' cap situation, I don't think an offer sheet is at all a concern for them.

3) I wouldn't be surprised if the Devils draft an offensively capable defenseman with one of their first few picks; especially if they trade Damon Severson.

One guy they could take a long look at is New Jersey native Cam Dineen.

Dineen scored 13 goals and tallied 59 points in 68 games while playing big minutes on an always stingy North Bay Battalion team.

Scouts opinions really vary on Dineen. I know some who, like me, would have no problem taking him in the top-45. I know others who wouldn't use a top-90 pick on him.

It'll be interesting to see where he ends up going. It only takes one team to like him.
