Some notes on the Albany Devils' playoff run, pending free agents and more:
1) The Albany Devils topped the powerhouse Toronto Marlies 2-1 in their series opener on Wednesday night.
Despite the scoring prowess both teams possess it was a rather uneventful game as the Devils jumped out to a 2-1 lead ~10 minutes into the 1st period before locking it down the rest of the way.
Scott Wedgewood was the game's 1st star as he stopped 32-33 - including 20-20 in the final 40 minutes - in the win. Mike Sislo led the way offensively with a pair of assists.
None of the kids (Reid Boucher, Joseph Blandisi, Pavel Zacha or Damon Severson) found the scoresheet but Boucher had four shots on goal while Blandisi had three shots and a couple minor penalties.
Game 2 goes Friday night in Toronto before returning to Albany for three, yes three, games.
2)
It was previously reportedly by TheHockeyNews' Ryan Kennedy that Pavel Zacha left last night's game with an injury. According to Albany Devils' beat writer Pete Dougherty, Zacha is fine and was not injured in Game 1 against the Toronto Marlies.
3) I'm a little surprised the Devils have yet to re-sign any of their pending free agents - either unrestricted or restricted - given they've now been in off-season mode for a month.
If my math is correct the Devils finished the year with eight unrestricted free agents and six restricted free agents on their pro roster.
Not everyone will be brought back - especially in terms of UFAs - but it's probably safe to say Ray Shero will be busy over the next month and change.
I doubt he wants to be dealing with a Kyle Palmieri extension, for example, while he's working the phones at the draft.
