Martin Brodeur has more than likely played his last game as a member of the New Jersey Devils.

The 42-year-old future Hall of Famer is coming off an up-and-down season with New Jersey where he entered the season on an even playing field with Cory Schneider, and ended it as the undisputed backup.

Brodeur, who's 59th in save percentage among NHL goaltenders with > 1,500+ minutes played over the last three seasons, still believes he has some good hockey left in him and plans on playing in the NHL one more year, with him playing in another city as the likely end result.

Brodeur via Pierre LeBrun's ESPN article: "I want to challenge myself. It's a different opportunity, I've never experienced this before. I feel the year I had last season I can still play at a high level. I think I can help certain teams. I look at what happened in the playoffs with certain goalies and certain teams, I wish I could have been there for them."

Brodeur went on to say he'd be a backup on a team if he thinks they can contend, but he'd probably be willing to go to a middle-of-the-pack if he gets more starts

A lot can change but my best guess at this point puts Martin Brodeur in Toronto to backup Jonathan Bernier.

James Reimer will be moved in the coming weeks, and Leafs management seems to put experience, leadership and all that jazz on a pedestal. That leads me to believe they'd have some interest in Brodeur, who the team targeted in free agency a couple years back, if he's willing to sign there.

To me Toronto makes the most sense for a variety of reasons. Brodeur is the best of friends with David Clarkson, and with his son Jeremy Brodeur signing with the Oshawa Generals (OHL), Martin would be close by and able to watch Jeremy play on off-days, etc.

Pierre LeBrun also believes the Leafs are a possibility, as he mentioned them along with the Chicago Blackhawks as some potential fits for Brodeur.

Where Brodeur ends up this summer remains to be seen, but he seems pretty adamant on playing another season and I can't see it being with the Devils.
