Flames GM Brad Treliving took care of some housekeeping on Thursday in signing prospects Hunter Smith and Mason McDonald to three-year entry-level contracts.

Smith is a 6'6' power winger who scored 23 goals and recorded 49 points in 57 regular season games for the Oshawa Generals.

Smith followed that up with nine goals and 18 points in 21 playoff games en route to an OHL Championship.

The soon-to-be 20-year-old winger is eligible to return to Oshawa as an overage player, however, it seems likely that he will turn pro and spend next season with Stockton of the AHL.

Should he return to the OHL I imagine a trade is likely as the Generals seem to be embracing a bit of a rebuild and he probably won't want to stick around for that in what would be his last OHL season.

McDonald, on the other hand, will certainly be returning to junior.

He is coming off an excellent season where he posted a .906 save percentage in 56 regular season games with the Charlottetown Islanders.

The .906SV% doesn't seem all that impressive, however, it's worth noting that the QMJHL is a very high scoring league and that McDonald actually posted the 2nd best save percentage in the Q.

The only goaltender ahead of McDonald was Marvin Cupper who was an overage player last season.

McDonald figures to be spoon fed starts in Charlottetown again next season and, given his save percentage has improved every year in the QMJHL, it's probably safe bet to assume he'll continue to progress.
