The New Jersey Devils concluded their season in style on Saturday night as, after allowing the game's 1st goal, they scored five unanswered in a convincing 5-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Good
- If that was the last game of Patrik Elias' (Devils) career he sure went out in style. From start to finish he was one of the best players on the ice and the Devils consistently generated scoring chances when he was on the ice. He finished the game with a goal, two assists and he probably could have scored a couple more had he converted on some chances Pavel Zacha set him up for. The standing ovation he received was well deserved. Hopefully this isn't the end.
- Pavel Zacha couldn't have been better in his NHL debut. He showed great vision and playmaking ability in setting up Elias for several Grade A chances. He worked well along the wall, had a couple nice net drives and looked very confident with the puck. He had a pair of assists and finished 2nd in the game with four scoring chances.
It was awesome that he was given the opportunity to play with his childhood idol in Elias. I'd love to see more of it next year.
- Defense is the hardest position in hockey to play at a young age but I thought Steve Santini handled himself pretty well out there. He made quick, smart decisions with the puck and showed off his physical prowess early when he levelled Andrew Campbell.
- Miles Wood's game wasn't as eventful as the other two rookies but I thought he did some nice things. He showed good speed with the puck and did manage to record a couple scoring chances while also finishing positive in possession.
- Cory Schneider posted a .950 save percentage in his final start of the season. It's only fitting it ended that way.
The Bad
- We have to wait half of a year before we can watch Zacha and co. play again.
- That may have been Elias' last NHL game.
Stat Of The Game
Kyle Palmieri had 12 shot attempts. No other player recorded more than five.
