The Albany Devils got back on track Saturday night with a much needed 5-3 win against the Saint John's IceCaps on the second game of a back-to-back. Here are some notes on that game as well as some New Jersey Devils prospect notes.

- That was a much needed win for the Devils. Despite having a record of 4-5-4 through 13 games, the Devils are only two points out of 8th in the Eastern Conference. It's a long season and they need to take points any time and any way they can get them. Had they lost in regulation last night, they would be sitting 15th in the Eastern Conference today.

- Kudos to Jeff Frazee for putting together another solid effort in goal for Albany. He stopped 42-of-45 in the win and made several big saves.

- It's still Kinkaid's net, but Frazee is making a strong case to steal some more starts and more importantly, earn another contract from the Devils. They wanted to see something from him this year, and to this point he has shown them he's worthy of at least consideration of a new contract. Frazee is 3-1-2 on the year with a .921 save percentage and a 2.12 goals against average. Not bad. Not bad at all. Now he needs to sustain this solid play.

- Adam Larsson scored and recorded an assist in the win. Larsson has adjusted nicely to the AHL level as he has posted eight points in 13 games thus far. Pretty good numbers.

- Adam Henrique had two, yes two(!) assists in the Devils win last night. Those were his first two assists of the season, surprisingly. Perhaps this is the start of a good stretch for him.

- Jacob Josefson scored last night extending his point-streak to four games. This is the second four-game point-streak of the season for Josefson. I know the AHL is not the NHL, but he's showing that he's capable of producing offensively when given the opportunities. I expect Pete DeBoer to give him some more offensive looks if and when hockey resumes this year.

- Other notable performances last night: Bobby Butler scored his second goal of the season and had four shots. Brandon Burlon picked up two assists, Harri Pesonen had an assist and Darcy Zajac scored a pair.

- I covered the Windsor Spitfires - Barrie Colts game last night for TheHockeyGuys.net. Devils prospect Ben Johnson was in action and looked pretty good in the 6-5 overtime loss. He recorded an assist, created several chances and was good defensively as well as on the forecheck. He's the kind of player Pete DeBoer loves. He's talented and he'll work hard.

- While talking about this game, I must say I was pretty impressed with Spitfires defenseman Brandon Devlin. He was sound defensively, physical and very efficient in getting the puck out of the Spitfires zone quickly. He went undrafted last year in his first year of eligibility but he did get a look from the New York Rangers at their developmental camp in the summer. I wouldn't be surprised if someone drafted him this year in New Jersey. Just something to keep an eye on.

- Ben Thomson was held off the scoresheet in a 4-0 Kitchener loss to Owen Sound Saturday night. Thomson did, however, pick up 6PIMs (roughing, hooking, cross-checking).

- In the WHL, Damon Severson, Graham Black and Reece Scarlett were all held off the scoresheet in their respective games.

- In action across the CHL tonight: Ben Johnson, Reid Boucher, Ben Thomson, Graham Black, Reece Scarlett, Stefan Matteau.
