On a day where many teams are cutting and waiving players the New Jersey Devils are making news in other ways.

The Devils announced that they'll be holding a press conference Tuesday (tomorrow) to announce that Martin Brodeur's jersey will be retired by the team. Brodeur's No. 30 is slated to be hung from the rafters Tuesday, February 9th against the Edmonton Oilers.

The announcement will be streamed live on the team website at 1 p.m. Eastern.

After a solid camp followed up by some impressive showings in Albany the Devils have elected to sign goaltender Ken Appleby to a three-year entry-level contract.

Appleby made 50 appearances for the Memorial Cup winning Oshawa Generals last season and posted a 2.08 goals against average and .924 save percentage. He followed that up with an excellent postseason where he posted a .926 save percentage in 16 games.

With Scott Wedgewood and Yann Danis the A-Devs seem set between the pipes so it seems like a reasonable bet Appleby will at least start the year in the ECHL.

Still, Appleby is a solid goaltending prospect and it doesn't hurt to add some more depth at the position.
