The Calgary Flames have placed forward Freddie Hamilton on waivers (presumably) with the purpose of reassigning him to AHL Stockton.
Hamilton has been with the Flames all season but appeared in only eight games and two in the last month. His ice time has been very limited when he has drawn in – he's played more than 7:30 just twice – so it's clear the coaching staff wasn't overly confident in him.
That's certainly fair as, in his limited showings, Hamilton gave them little reason to be. He tallied just one assist and five shots in his eight games and his underlying numbers (41.5 Corsi For%, 38.3 Scoring Chance For%) leave a lot to be desired as well. That's Tanner Glass territory.
Hamilton is a fringe rotational forward, which the Flames have an abundance of, and is certainly not needed if Andrew Mangiapane is going to be given a legitimate shot to stick around.
One game is one game, but Mangiapane looked quite good in limited ice against Chicago and his AHL numbers suggest he's ready to be an everyday player in the NHL.
He just needs the chance and, with Hamilton being waived, it seems likely he'll get it.
