That is certainly a lot to give up -- I'm not a fan of the price -- but the Flames do have a stocked prospect cupboard so they are better equipped to deal with a pick shortage than many teams.
Hamonic is coming off a down season by his standards but he was playing through injuries for much of the year so there's reason to believe he'll bounce back.
The 26-year-old will be a nice complement to T.J. Brodie on the 2nd pairing and should really help solidify the top-4.
Hamonic has three years remaining on his contract at a very reasonable $3.857 million per season.
