Now that the World Hockey Championships have concluded Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving, who helped assemble Canada's team at the Worlds, can focus exclusively on his work with the Flames.
One of the biggest items on his to-do list is finding a new head coach, and it sounds like Treliving will turn his attention to doing so in short order.
When talking about the interest Vadir Shipachov is drumming up Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman noted the Flames' coaching search is another storyline we'll be hearing a lot about this week.
Transcribed on TodaysSlapShot.com: And I think obviously your coaching search is going to heat up now that Brad Treliving is back in town.
While it sounds like a decision could be made by Treliving soon there's still no sign of which coaches are at the top of his list.
The Flames have been linked to Mike Yeo, who served as an assistant for Canada at the Worlds. That would have been a good time for Treliving to familiarize himself with Yeo but there's been no word on if he'll be seriously considered for the job.
The Flames also surprisingly continue to be connected to Randy Carlyle, who Brian Burke has a long history with, as well as Glen Gulutzan
and most recently New Jersey Devils' assistant Geoff Ward, among others.
Scouting meetings take place this week, too, so Treliving has a lot on his plate but I imagine he won't want to wait too much longer to fill the vacancy, especially with Anaheim still in the market for a new coach.
Things have been very quiet for the Flames since their season concluded but it appears things will heat up sooner than later.
Finally.
