Bobby Farnham Signs With Montreal Canadiens

The New Jersey Devils are working towards icing a faster, more skilled lineup this fall.

As a result the team elected not to bring back forward Bobby Farnham, who skated a regular shift on the 4th line for much of last season after being claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh.

Today Farnham signed a one-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens organization.

Farnham enjoyed a nice breakout season in 2015-16 scoring eight goals - the most he has ever scored as a professional - and tallying 10 points in 50 games.

With Farnham on the ice the Devils controlled 44% of the 5 v 5 shot attempts and 46% of the goals. His offensive output (in terms of goals, anyway) may have been good for a 4th liner but he shots an unsustainably high 16.7% and there was still a lot more bad than good when he was on the ice.

While some were hoping he'd be brought back as the team's 13th forward I think the Devils were smart to walk away.
