Are the Devils interested in Ryan Spooner?

The other day I floated the idea of the New Jersey Devils buying low on Boston Bruins forward Ryan Spooner.

Apparently, they may be trying to do just that.

On Thursday afternoon a report surfaced suggesting the Bruins are listening to offers for Spooner and that the Devils could be involved.

All three of the mentioned teams make sense. New Jersey is desperate for offensive help, Vancouver is desperate for offensive help and Vegas needs any and every talented player they can get their hands on (there won't be many offensively gifted players to choose from in expansion).

Spooner has tallied 88 points over the last two seasons and just put up 39 points in what was a 'down year' with the Bruins. For perspective, 39 points would have ranked one below Adam Henrique for 4th on the Devils in scoring.

While his 5v5 production dipped this season, he has been a good producer in that game state over the last two years.

Since the beginning of the 2015-16 season, Spooner has averaged 1.67 points per 60 at 5v5. That's more than Jakob Silfverberg, Nathan MacKinnon, Milan Lucic, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin and Alex Wennberg, among many others. That's a good crop of players to be hanging with.

Spooner's not a great shot suppressor or defensive player but he has experience playing both center and wing, can skate, and create offense.

At 25, Spooner fits in with the retool/rebuild and it may only cost a draft pick, which the Devils have an abundance of, to pry him from the Bruins.
