Harvard's season could reach its end as soon as Friday but, regardless of outcome, don't expect Alexander Kerfoot to sign with the New Jersey Devils anytime soon.

In the latest edition of TSN's Insider Trading, Darren Dreger suggested Kerfoot may not be in a rush to sign in New Jersey and could potentially wait things out, allowing him to test the open market like Jimmy Vesey -- also a Harvard player -- so notably did a year ago.

Here's what Dreger had to say on the matter:

"Harvard's Alexander Kerfoot remains a hot commodity. He's from West Vancouver so perhaps, perhaps, there could be a Vancouver Canucks angle to this. He's property of the New Jersey Devils and Ray Shero, the general manager for the Devils, intends to sit down with Kerfoot and his parents at the end of the season. He wants to sign this guy but Kerfoot also wants to potentially explore his options. If he does not sign with the Devils by August 15th then, for better or worse, he's an unrestricted free agent and that's where, perhaps, the Canucks and other teams would consider they interest they have."

Kerfoot, a 5th round pick of the Devils in 2012, has enjoyed a very successful season. He's tallied 16 goals, eight more than his previous career high, and 40 points in 31 games (1.29 per), marking the third consecutive year he has averaged at least one point per game.

The 5'10' skilled forward has definitely shown promise that he can be an NHL player one day, which would make losing him for nothing a tough pill to swallow.

Ultimately, there really isn't much the Devils can do or say to prevent Kerfoot from walking away. They simply have to hope he sees the (somewhat) clear path to a spot on the roster and chooses to stick with the team that drafted him.
