Fingers and Toes Crossed
Expecting big things are you?
Expecting your team to be "that team" that gets it done and makes the greatest move in NHL history?
Well, not to burst your bubble or anything, but let's not get our hopes up too high.
I am as much of a glass half-full, optimist kind of guy as there is, but even I have my doubts about what will truly transpire tonight as the hockey world gathers in the Molson's newly re-acquired hockey shrine.
Oh, and did I mention that
Vincent Lecavalier lives in Montreal too? Right.
Do I expect for any or all of the rumours floating about to go down tonight?
No.
Do I want them to?
With every fibre of my being.
If you are reading this article, or this site for that matter, you are here for one reason, and one reason only, THE BUZZ. That hope to find an inside piece of information, some early warning signal about your teams future. That's why all of us at Hockeybuzz try our best to snag a scoop or two, but besides bringing you breaking news and rumours on your favorite team, we are here to provide you with analysis and opinion. Sometimes rumours and opinions are not necessarily logical(not that the illogical never happens!), but with all of the wild rumours floating about, airing on the side of the caution, the side that "your team" won't make a big move, may be the best move your team can make.
In a bid to add some sensibility to a day that may likely go down as one of the wildest Draft days in NHL history, let's assume that, for the better part, most teams will stand pat. It's likely that all the "could-be's" may end up as "should be's" by the end of the 1st round, yet as much as the expectations are focused squarely on this evening's event, there is another full day of drafting tomorrow as well as the expected release of a final Salary Cap figure in the coming days. Not to mention the 7 days remaining before the Free Agent market opens.
Will Lecavalier, St.Louis, Heatley, Kessel, Kaberle, Frolov, Kovalchuk, Pronger, Phaneuf or Marleau be traded tonight?
Will the negotiation rights to Bouwmeester, Barker, Clowe, Komisarek, Johnson, the Sedins or Gaborik be traded tonight?
Chances are no. But, I would put my money on some of these players moving, especially those who have demanded out, publicly or not.
Will anyone trade up or down?
Will it be Tavares, Hedman and Duchesne? Or the reverse?
How much are the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th picks worth?
With so much going on in one single spot on one single day, there is no way that nothing will come about. If the wild trades don't happen today, don't be surprised if they happen tomorrow or when the Cap is finally announced.
The GM's have a lot to be wary of as the clock ticks towards 7:00pm.
What about your team though?
Do you want your team to make that big splash(?) or do you want them to stay the course(?) and look at the open market and the possibility of strengthening the team in the coming months and not today?
If you do want your team to make a move, what move?
