Fate Deals A Seventh Card

Destiny.

Fate.

Unstoppable force meeting immovable object.

However you would like to describe it, this instant classic of a series between the Caps and Pens has not only met expectations, but simply blown them away.

So Steckell sends us back to Washington for another glorious evening of nail-biting, knee jittering and beer spilling, could we ask for anything more?

Debate it all you like; one team deserves it more because yada yada yada...no matter how you slice it, the 6 games that have been contested throughout this series have been incredible and this has been a marathon of guts, heart and straight-up luck.

Did we honestly expect anything less?

Quick Hits

Here are my Stars of the Game for both clubs;

Washington:

1. Ovechkin
2. Kozlov
3. Laich
4. Varlamov
5. Fedorov

Ovechkin made his mark with 3 assists tonight, while Kozlov's 2 timely goals and Laich and Steckell's hard-work forced in the goals the Caps needed. Varlamov, although displaying some nerves at times tonight, came up huge when he needed to be, saving the Caps at end of the game while the Penguins enjoyed, yet another, late period power play.

Reason why the won:

Perseverance. The bounces have been wild this series and given the intensity of the rivalry, the Hockey Gods saw that this series would only be fitting if it were decided in 7 games.

Pittsburgh:

1. Crosby
2. Scuderi
3. Malkin
4. Guerin
5. Kennedy

Crosby was a man possessed and matched Ovechkin in and out all game long. Scuderi was a beast on defense and has truly stepped up this series. Malkin and Guerin were key when they needed to be and Kennedy is just a whirlwind of forechecking energy for the Pens.

Reason why they lost:

Caught on the other side of a momentum shift, for the first time in 3 games, the Penguins found themselves on the bad side of the bouncing pucks.

With one more game to go in this phenomenal series, tomorrow's day off will be severely welcomed by both clubs. Having played 4 of the most intense hockey games of the entire season in the last 6 days, they are going to need to save up as much energy as they can for Game 7.

If only it was for the Cup!

*****And as if a 5-4 Capitals overtime victory in Game 6 was not enough, the Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks put on a scoring clinic in Chicago in Game 6 of their series, with the Hawks coming out on top and securing their spot in the Western Conference Finals.*****

Here are those highlights:

Game 6: Blackhawks Vs. Canucks

How impressive does this young, high flying squad from the windy city look?

I will be back with much more on the Caps Game 6 Sudden Death victory and a preview for the biggest "Game 7 in the history of the New NHL."
