Sharks Are Suddenly Cup Favorites? Not So Fast...

While the rest of the second round match-ups are set, the San Jose Sharks sit at home combing their beards, waiting for somebody to play in the next round.

If your the Sharks its a good spot to be in. You have the luxury of scouting the rest of the competition from a distance while getting rested and healthy for what should be an exciting series against either the Anaheim Ducks or Nashville Predators.

Game 7 of that series is set for Wednesday night with the winner taking on the unfortunate task of facing a hungry and suddenly formidable Sharks team.

Before the start of this years playoff, the narrative surrounding San Jose was that of an underachieving bunch of chokers destined to fail when everything was on the line.

But by completing a swift and somewhat shocking ouster of the Los Angeles Kings, the Sharks have become all the experts new darlings with most, if not all, doing a complete 180. It as if everybody is clamoring to be the first one to call San Jose's shot and I find it somewhat humorous.

It doesn't surprise having followed the team this season. They are very good. Glad the rest of you finally noticed.

From ESPN on...the Sharks are magically for real. Even this website has a scenario in which the Sharks cruise all the way to the franchises first Stanley Cup Championship.

So why the sudden shift? And is it legit to believe this really is a Cup worthy?

How should I know. It's waaaaay too soon to tell. You know why? Because the first round isn't even over yet. There is one game left to play and the Sharks are still at home combing their beards and waiting. Slow your roll people.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves because as we all know...this is the Cup...and history will be made...one round at a time.

thanks for reading,
Steve
