San Jose Sharks captain Joe Pavelski can now add the title of "International Hero" to his ever growing lists of accomplishments.

International hero may be a bit of a stretch, but he is going to represent the United States with the captain's "C" on his chest and that in itself is pretty special.

That's right, the guy who lost the NHL 17 cover cold war has a chance to get the last laugh if he manages to lead Team USA to the promised land in the upcoming World Cup of Hockey.

Led by Pavelski, the Sharks put together one of the more memorable Cup runs in recent history, including ending the Los Angeles Kings season in 5 short games in the opening round.

Can Pavelski do the same for Team USA? The Americans are not the favorites, but are a team built to win a few games. They posses size, speed and some legitimate rock start golatending. Just like the Sharks, they could surprise a few teams.

I think Pavs is the right man for the job. Pavelski, embodies the spirit of a typical blue-collar worker. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty and he is a leader among men. Plus he's a heck of a hockey player.

'Merica....

In his first season as the Sharks' captain, Pavelski helped his team reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in franchise history. Quite an accomplishment considering the clubs history of embarrassing near-misses and epic collapses.

Pavelski finished in the upper echelon of the NHL in both goals (38) and points (78). He also led all players with 14 goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and was third with 23 points.

Way to go Joe!
