Cool, calm and professional Sharks dominate game 3

I just finished writing the Ducks blog and it's full of bitterness and discontent. The same can't  be said about this one.

Besides the obvious beat down the San Jose Sharks are laying down on the Anaheim Ducks, this series has showed myself and the rest of the NHL that the teal and black are a really good, really professional hockey club.

With every subsequent goal in the 8-1 rout of Anaheim, the Sharks toned down the celebrating as to not embarrass the opponent. The Ducks did enough of that on their own.

The Sharks scored on 4 of 8 power play opportunities and are 6 for 17 (35%) in the series. If you want to read my Anaheim thoughts - check that blog. I'm going to save this one to praise San Jose.

The Sharks played game three with poise and confidence. As the Ducks sabotaged their own chances with a lack of discipline I have never experienced with that team. Corey Perry - look in the mirror.

Eight different Sharks scored in the game. Joonas Donskoi, Logan Couture had a goal and two assists a piece. Evander Kane, Timo Meier, Joe Pavleski, Marcus Sorensen, Chris Tierney and Eric Fehr rounded out the scoring. Six players had multi-point games, 13 had at least one point and all but three skaters had a shot on goal. It was the first time the Sharks scored eight goals in a playoff game in their history.

Martin Jones was great again. He stopped 45 of 46 shots and 98 of 101 overall in the series. I believe Jones' dominace over Anaheim has contributed to their meltdown. The Ducks haven't  scored more than two goals against Jones this season. They are visibly frustrated and it's manifesting itself in some really ugly hockey.

All that's left to do is slam the door, lock it and throw away the key on Anaheim's season by winning game four.

2014 is still lingering out there for people to hang onto. I believe the Sharks won game 3 in that series 7-2 before the Kings rattled off four straight. Do I believe the Ducks have a chance to pull that same miracle off? No. But then again I would never have imagined an expansion team would win the Pacific Division in its inaugural season either.

Thanks for reading,
Steve
