If the San Jose Sharks are anything, they are resilient. One night after a disappointing 7-4 loss to the New York Rangers, the Sharks responded with a satisfying victory over the Brooklyn Islanders of Long Island.

Joe Pavelski scored the game-winning goal with 2:11 remaining in the third to lift San Jose to a 3-2 win at Barclays Center.

Pavelski did what he does best in scoring the game clinching goal...redirect pucks. The Sharks captain drifted in front of the Islanders net before redirecting a pass from Joe Thornton pass Jaroslav Halak for his only goal of the game and second in as many days. Pavelski had a goal and three assists in the loss to the Rangers.

Melker Karlsson and Tomas Hertl each scored, while Brent Burns stayed white hot with two more assists.

Aaron Dell made 21 saves in his NHL debut for his first career win.

With the win San Jose improves to 3-1.

A few quick hits from the game:

- It was encouraging to see the Sharks fight back to win the game against the Islanders. When the Islanders jumper ahead 2-1 I had my doubts. But this team never quits. They didn't quit against the Rangers, nearly coming all the way back and they didn't quit against the Islanders.

- Joe Pavelski is already in mid-season form. Four games in and he already has six points (2g 4a). I'm not sure there is a better qualified captain in the entire league.

- Joe Thornton has five assists so far. he's only 41 shy of 1,000 for his career.

- Aaron Dell did a good job earning his first win. I expect Martin Jones to get at least 60 starts this season. That leaves 22 chances for the 27-year-old Dell to get his chance. I'm a firm believer in the power of motivation and I think Dell is as motivated as they come. He better be... the Sharks back-up situation was rocky last season before James Reimer was added at the deadline. It was the difference between winning the division and not.

- Brent Burns is playing over 23 minutes a game and leads the entire team in goals (3g) and points (8). He's already an early Norris favorite. What can't he do?
