25 Sharks' Moments To Remember - #22 "The Sharks Way"

The 2015-16 San Jose Sharks had a reputation for being tough to beat on the road. That reputation was founded on the Sharks' ability to win in hostile environments when playing less than its best.

On Nov. 20th, San Jose headed to Philadelphia to play the fourth game of the current six-game road trip. Having already won the first three games, the Sharks could have very easily mailed it in against the Flyers. Not this group and not on this night.

The Sharks struggled to find their offensive fluidity all night, collecting just 21 shots against a Flyers team that was among the leagues worst in shots against. Thankfully, Martin Jones was between the pipes and playing as good as he had any point in the season.

Neither team found the score sheet in regulation and the game went to overtime.

Melker Karlsson would change that in the waning moments of the extra period.

Taking a perfect feed from Joonas Donskoi on a 2-on-1, Karlsson would bury his third goal of the season with 1:15 left in overtime to give the Sharks a 1-0 win. The win extended the Sharks winning streak to four and kept the road trip perfect.

At 11-8, San Jose was well on its way to a bounce back season and Pete Deboer was showing why he was exactly the right guy for the Sharks' bench. Less than a quarter of the way into the season, Deboer seemed to have the uncanny ability to read the pulse of his team and it was showing results.

After the game he said....

"Over 82 games, you've got to win all kinds of different ways, we scored five (goals) in Boston, we won that way. Tonight, it was a goalie win for us. You've got to get timely contributions at different points from everybody."

I found this quote very poignant. It spoke directly to the team's identity moving forward and a key ingredient in their overall success...AKA "The Sharks Way."

This win was the result of the Sharks patience. Despite a lack of offense, the players never got frustrated or panicked. San Jose would use this win as a spring board to another level of play that going into the season the players may not have felt was there.
