10 takeaways from a tough night at the Tank

The San Jose Sharks fell 2-0 to the Florida Panthers at the SAP Center on Thursday night. It was a tough game to drop considering the Sharks were in position to move up the standings with a win against one of the East worst teams.

With two disallowed goals, the game was wrought with frustration for the offensively challenged Sharks. Here are 10 takeaways from the game.

1. The 2-0 loss was the first shutout against San Jose this season - that's in spite of the teams offensive woes. They did throw 35 pucks at net. Keep that up and eventually they will start going in. Right???

2.  Trailing 1-0, the Sharks put two goals past Roberto Luongo, but both were challenged and both were disallowed, including a head-scratcher on a jammed in puck that frustrated many of the Sharks players. It should of counted.

3. There were no goals scored in fast paced first period. San Jose had the better of the zone time but Florida had better chances. Martin Jones was strong once again. That is pretty much the theme this season for San Jose. All flash and no finnish and Jones does the rest.

4. After nice win against Los Angeles and Vancouver, the Sharks fall to the 15th ranked team in the Eastern Conference. This could be a wake up call or a sign of things to come for San Jose. They play five games in eight days leading up to American Thanksgiving.

5. Did Brent Burns score a goal? Nope. No goals on six shots....ugh. Through 17 games, Burns has just seven assists. Last seasons Norris winner is struggling big time and we are nearly a quarter of the way into the season. He's coming off seasons of 27 and 29 goals respectively. Panicked yet?

6. Panthers head coach Bob Boughner earned his first career win against his former team. Boughner has attempted to bring SJ's style of play to the sunshine state with limited success. Unfortunately, it worked last night.... with the help of two successful coaches challenges that wiped away any hope at a Sharks' rally. I digress...

7. The Sharks have allowed two goals or fewer in nine of the last 10 games and are 7-3 over that same span. DYN, Sharks are 5-0 when they score four or more goals in a game?

8. Timo Meier had a team high seven shots on goal. Meier is looking more comfortable but its not translating to the stat sheet. He has one goal this season a 2.5% shooting percentage.

9. San Jose is averaging 2.53 goals per game following the shutout. Only Montreal, Edmonton, Buffalo and Arizona are worse. None of those teams are in a playoff spot and the Sharks are. That's how good Jones, Aaron Dell and the defense has been.

10. The Sharks had an announced attendance of 16, 411. That was the lowest of the season. Are fans getting bored too? Nah, had to be the Florida affect.
