First, let me apologize for the gap between writing. I had severe computer issues... Let's just leave it at that...
The Flames major announcement came two days ago when they made the new coaching staff public. As expected a Sutter will once again lead the team (third time a Sutter has held the position) as Brent Sutter will man the post for the coming season. As assistants we found out that Ryan McGill, Jamie McLennan, and Dave Lowry will be part of the staff and we now have what most wanted/expected/hoped for as the coaching clean-up has come to fruition in Calgary.
Much will be made of the new blood and with Brent's pedigree the expectations will be high once again for this team. Pundits will argue whether or not this was a good move but until the dust settles on next season there's really no way to tell.
At least maybe this move will put the Dion rumors to rest. Brent knows him well from Red Deer and the world juniors and is the perfect coach to help the young player after a tough season last year. The question is: will he be the perfect coach to lead the team past the first round?
One thing is for sure. This team will be run by the head coach. decisions will be made by the head coach, the system will be implemented according to the wishes of the head coach. The assistants that were brought in will be good for the room. Lowry and McLennan in particular have a familiarity with many of the players that should help in bringing back the type of team first atmosphere that the Flames need, and Jamie should help Miikka get back to the form that made him an elite puck-stopper by reminding him of how he used to prepare and work and keeping his former battery-mate loose.
When it comes down to it, this is the move that most wanted. Let's just hope that it produces the much needed results!
Have a great day!
