Three games back, three games left and a myriad of sleepless nights ahead should the Oilers fail to qualify for the playoffs following the final week of the 2008-09 NHL campaign.

I might recommend they start counting sheep now, in anticipation of another disappointing finish to the regular season.

The odds lie squarely against the copper and blue, but alas, that’s why they play the games folks – occasionally, the planets align and the hockey gods throw you a bone.
Heading into the final week, Edmonton sits three points back of the eighth and final play-off spot in the Western Conference, which the pesky Nashville Predators currently hold title to.

Edmonton is one of five clubs chasing the two remaining playoff positions in the conference. Take a look at what’s in store for the competition, say a prayer and keep that Gretzky rookie card close by for good luck.
