The Oilers took care of some important business this morning, signing its 2008 first round draft pick, Jordan Eberle, to a three-year NHL entry level contract.

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced the signing of Eberle, the WHL and Canadian Junior star.

Great to see this bit of housekeeping out of the way. The Regina Pats' centre let his junior team in scoring this year with impressive stats of 35-39-74 - 36 points of which came while on the PP.

Eberle lit a fire on Oilers Nation - the entire nation for that matter - after scoring the tying goal with five seconds remaining in regulation and another in the shootout of Canada's 6-5 OT victory over Russia in the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship, earning his team a berth in the gold medal game.

The future is bright for this soon-to-be 19 year old. Whether he'll be able to maintain that level of offensive greatness at the NHL level, while under the tutelage of head coach Craig MacTavish, remains to be seen.

Nonetheless, the team can use a few more talented offensive weapons with golden hands. This kid will fit in nicely with the team's other young guns, Gagner and Cogliano.
