Update: Puck...off with Sather's dough
Peter Puck has met bail, thanks to "some guy named Glen Sather!"
Canadian Press is reporting that Slats posted $1M bond earlier today to allow for the release of his former boss, who once owned the Oilers. The man responsible for trading
The Great One to LA in the late 1980s, a trade that will forever live in infamy for many Canadian hockey fans, Pockington is scheduled to appear in court for trial on May 5 to face two charges of bankruptcy fraud.
Pocklington's tax lawyer has suggested, of course, his client is innocent, stating the U.S. Attorney would indict a 'ham sandwich' right now, given the monumental and scandalous collapse of that country's financial industry.
A ham sandwich, eh? Can you say "cheese" Peter, because me thinks you're about to have your mugshot taken for California Penal Monthly.
Parden my
wry sense of humour, but what goes round...comes round.

Destiny seems to be no friend of the Edmonton Oilers these days.
The Oilers opened up a three-game homestand against the lowly Atlanta Thrashers at Rexall Place, the tonic, one would think, for a team desperate to throw together a run that will seal their playoff deal.
Instead, former Oiler
Marty Reasoner returned to his old stomping grounds and scored the game-winner in a 4-3 OT victory for the Kovalchuk-less Thrashers. Ilya seen all of 46 seconds of the first period, before disappearing into the dressing room with an unknown injury.
There's no reason, other than Marty and Atlanta netminder
Johan Hedberg, that is, why the Oilers continue to sabotage their post-season party plans by blowing wins down the stretch. Edmonton did earn a single point, allowing them to maintain their slippery hold on seventh spot in the Western Conference.
Perhaps destiny is on their side after all. Further slip-ups could cost the team dearly in the standings and their quest for a Stanley Cup play-off berth – and ultimately their much-maligned bench boss, Craig MacTavish.
The sky isn't falling, but heads may soon be rolling in this organization – regardless if they make a brief post-season appearance or not. At a time when this team should be grabbing hold of its post-season destiny by the throat, it's choking instead.
On a positive note, it was nice to see recently acquired
Patrick O'Sullivan bury an opportunity tonight. The team's other acquisition, Ales Kovalik is getting opportunities, but continues to look somewhat uncomfortable in his new colours.
Another former Oiler will have an opportunity to play spoiler on Saturday, when
Ryan Smyth and the Colorado Avalanche roll into town.
