Thoughts From Pittsburgh's Win Over Chicago

I don't have a ton of thoughts about preseason games but here are the few that I have from last night.

Tristan Jarry had a shutout and as a goaltender you can't do any better than that. All eyes will be on Jarry as the preseason continues and the Penguins try to figure out who will back up Marc-Andre Fleury during Matt Murray's absence. If he continues to show competency throughout training camp I see no reason why they would go outside of the organization to sign another goaltender to a PTO. Fleury is going to get the lion's share of games anyways. No harm in letting Jarry back him up.

Jake Guentzel is one of hte forwards I am most interested in. So far he seems to be picking up where he left off in WB/S. ESPN prospect expert Corey Pronman also thinks he is a player to watch.

When Sid and Geno finally arrive from the World Cup of Hockey I would like to see Guentzel with them. Left wing isn't exactly a deep position for Pittsburgh and if Guentzel can bring some skill and hockey IQ to that spot it would be a huge boon for Pittsburgh.

Trevor Daley saw his first game action since he broke his ankle in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. His skating looked the same as it always has which is great news. A lot of what Daley does is predicated on his ability to move around and that certainly was not compromised from what I saw last night.

These preseason games are a chore to get through. I don't know how anybody could have it out against the World Cup of Hockey. The contrast between the two is huge.
