The Penguins hockey season is over but Sidney Crosby's is not

"Any time you can represent Canada, it's an honour," Crosby said. "I looked at the roster Hockey Canada has put together and I'm excited about the opportunity we have to win gold."

Sidney Crosby will play for Team Canada at the World Championships for the first time since his rookie season in the NHL (2005-06). This was the only year that the Penguins missed the playoffs.

In past seasons Crosby has either been nursing injuries or the Penguins were making deeper runs in to the playoffs.

Canada should be pretty fun to watch:

Former San Jose coach Todd McLellan will lead a young team that also includes forwards Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin, Claude Giroux and Nathan MacKinnon and defenceman Aaron Ekblad.

It remains to be seen if Evgeni Malkin will be joining Team Russia. He is nursing an injury.

The tournament is in the Czech Republic and former Penguins legend Jaromir Jagr will also be participating.
