Phil Kessel was the center of a lot of negative attention in Toronto when he was playing for the Maple Leafs and even after he left from low talent attention seeking writers. The more you learn about Phil Kessel the more foolish the criticisms become. The latest example of this came when he brought the Stanley Cup back to Toronto.

Phil Kessel brought the Cup to a children's hospital during the day. By night he hosted a Stanley Cup party, but not with the guest list that you would think.

According to those who attended, Kessel wanted his Stanley Cup party to be a thank you to the other friends he made in Toronto, many of them from the hospitality industry. He was a regular at some of the higher-end restaurants in the downtown, and it was there that he first met many close friends during his six years playing for the Leafs.

There were some current NHL players at the party. Dion Phaneuf was present and so was another recently traded star player that faced foolish criticism

A rowdy P.K. Subban, meanwhile, showed up hooting and hollering at around midnight, still wearing a cowboy hat from his introductory press conference in Nashville that afternoon.

Both Kessel and Subban have dealt with a lot of unnecessarily bad press and find themselves in much better situations than where they were. I think it is pretty great that they party with one another.

Phil Kessel continues to give back to the Toronto community and goes out of his way to show his appreciation for people who have helped him along the way.

Phil Kessel: Great guy, great hockey player.
