Penguins scouting out west

It's back to business tonight as the Penguins return to action against the Montreal Canadiens. Pittsburgh is fresh off of their entertaining 8-7 overtime win over the Washington Capitals.

Their scouts are currently hitting up the west coast

The defense position would be a logical place for the Penguins to look, but it is impossible to know their exact intentions with this trip. The fact is that group is indeed out west and they are looking at teams that they either do not play again this year or don't face until after the trade deadline.

It’s worth noting that both games involved the Tampa Bay Lightning. Coincidence or more?

This might mean nothing, but I thought it was worth passing along.

Let’s get back to tonight’s business.

The Penguins were able to break a red hot Braden Holtby and tonight they will have the opportunity to go up against Carey Price. The Canadiens netminder is healthy this year and is back to playing lights out again. He is third overall in the NHL with an even-strength save percentage of .939. Only Devan Dubnyk (.947) and Braden Holtby (.944) have been better. In some prior years this was a necessity for Montreal to have success. This year they are a solid team and have excellent goaltending. The prior three years went the following way for Montreal:

2014-15: Bad team with excellent all-world goaltending

2015-16: Team that was improving, but went in the tank when Carey Price was hurt and his replacements were well below average.

2016-17: Team continues to improve and Carey Price is back healthy again.

With the combination of possession and goaltending the Montreal Canadiens have won a lot of games this year. They are third in the conference with 60 points

Two good teams in tonight’s matchup. We’ll see how it shakes out.

Thanks for reading!
