Avalanche icon Peter Forsberg is happy that general manager Joe Sakic finally was able to trade Matt Duchene, and he's equally pleased with the four players and three draft picks Sakic was able to acquire in return for the 26-year-old forward.

Duchene went to Ottawa as part of Sunday's three-team trade involving the Avalanche, Senators and Nashville Predators.

"I think it worked out for all three (teams)," Forsberg said in Stockholm, where the Avalanche and Senators will play Friday and Saturday in the 2017 SAP NHL Global Series.

"When it comes to three teams it shows how complex the situation is, but I think all three teams benefit from where they are in their situations. I think everybody is happy with what they got and what they're going for."

Here's the entire FORSBERG STORY.

The Avalanche acquired defenseman Samuel Girard, forwards Shane Bowers and Vladislav Kamenev, goalie Andrew Hammond, first- and second-round picks in the 2018 NHL draft, and a third-round pick in 2019.

The Predators acquired center Kyle Turris from Ottawa and signed him to a six-year, $36 million contract extension.

"Look at the trade, it was a good trade for the Avalanche too," Forsberg said. "They're building younger and they've got a lot of younger talent coming in now. For Ottawa, they're trying to win now and that's what Matt wanted to do, a little earlier than the Avs being the situation they're in. I think it's just fantastic that for Matt that it finally got solved and he got to go to a team that's a contender and wants to be a contender.

"The Avalanche are saying they're rebuilding but they're getting better, and they're better than people probably thought they'd be at the start. I think they've got something going. They're good now, but they might be great in a year or two here, so I think it worked out great."

The Avalanche will have plenty of support in Stockholm from members of Eurolanche, a European fan club founded by Slovakia's David Puchovsky that is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The club has nearly 800 registered members from 43 countries.

Eurolanche has published a 200-page book that chronicles its North American "invasions" over the years to attend Avalanche games at the Pepsi Center and other NHL venues, meet and interview Avalanche players, and visit popular attractions.

The book can be purchased for $24.99, which includes tracked international shipping.

The club's next "invasion" is scheduled this season between late February and early March. The group will attend five Avalanche games at the Pepsi Center and games in Chicago and Columbus.
