The Avalanche released their training camp schedule Tuesday, which includes a one-day rookie practice on Friday, Sept. 8, at the team's Family Sports facility in Centennial.

The practice, which begins at 10 a.m., is open to the public and free of charge.

The rookies will spend the next three days in San Jose playing a tournament with the Sharks, Anaheim Ducks and Arizona Coyotes at Solar4America Ice.

Saturday, Sept. 9: Rookies vs. Sharks, 4 p.m. PT.

Sunday, Sept. 10: Rookies practice, 10 a.m. PT.

Monday, Sept. 11: Rookies vs. Coyotes, 7 p.m. PT.

Tuesday, Sept. 12: Rookies vs. Ducks, noon PT.

The Avalanche also will hold their charity golf tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at The Ridge in Castle Pines, CO., that begins at 9:30 a.m. MT.

Wednesday is an off-day.

Training camp officially begins on Thursday, Sept. 14, with medicals and physical testing at the Pepsi Center. Players will be available to the media, along with coach Jared Bednar.

On-ice sessions will be held at Family Sports on Friday, Sept. 15, and Saturday, Sept. 16, and are free and open to the public.

The camp roster hasn't been released yet.

Two groups will be on the ice both days. The first session runs from 8:45-10:15 a.m., the second from 10:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Players and Bednar will be available to the media both days.

The annual Burgundy and White Game will be played on Sunday, Sept. 17, at Magness Arena on the University of Denver campus. Faceoff is 10 a.m. MT.

The Avalanche open a six-game preseason schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 19, against the Vegas Golden Knights at the Pepsi Center. Faceoff is 7 p.m. MT.

They begin regular-season play Thursday, Oct. 5, at the New York Rangers.

Defenseman Francois Beauchemin is back with the Ducks.

Beauchemin, 37, signed a one-year, $1 million contract with his former team that includes an additional $500,000 that can be earned through incentives.

The Avalanche bought out the final year of his three-year, $13.5 million contract in June before the expansion draft.

Beauchemin didn't want to move his family from Colorado until Ducks general manager Bob Murray called to say he was interested in bringing him back for a third tour.

“Back when I was (in Anaheim), I always said I wanted to end my career there,” Beauchemin told reporters. “Now that I have a chance to go back and end my career with the Ducks, it could not end in a better way. I’m thrilled and I’m excited for that chance.”

Beauchemin will give the Ducks some experienced depth as defensemen Hampus Lindholm and Sami Vatanen are expected to miss a significant amount of time to recover from shoulder surgeries to begin the season.

“He will bring valuable leadership and help our young defensemen build character and be successful NHL players, as Francois has been in his career," Murray said.
