Goalie Spencer Martin will make his NHL debut Saturday when the Avalanche play San Jose to close out their two-game road trip.

Here are the GAME NOTES.

Martin, 21, is 6-feet-3 and 210 pounds. He was Colorado's third-round pick (No. 63) in the 2013 NHL draft.

A second-year pro, he had a 15-9-0 record with San Antonio when he was recalled Wednesday after Semyon Varlamov went on the shelf again because of a groin injury. Martin had a shutout, a 2.62 goals-against average and .915 save percentage with the Rampage.

Martin, who is from Oakville, Ontario, played three seasons with the Mississauga Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League. He split time with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL and San Antonio last season, finishing 16-16-2 with five shutouts.

The Avalanche didn't have a morning skate Saturday.

Forward Rene Bourque won't play because of the lower-body injury he sustained Thursday in the Avalanche's 2-1 loss in Anaheim when Calvin Pickard had 34 saves. Defenseman Tyson Barrie will be a game-time decision; he sustained a lower-body injury Tuesday in Colorado's 6-4 loss to Chicago and didn't play against the Ducks.

Forward Matt Nieto will play his first game at the Shark Tank as a visitor. Claimed on waivers from San Jose on Jan. 5, he has a goal and an assist in five games with the Avalanche.

The Avalanche (13-29-8) have lost four games in a row and nine of the past 10. The Sharks (28-16-2) have won three in a row.
