It was announced today that Mathieu Perreault signed a 4 years extension contract worth 16.5 million or 4.125 AAV a 1.125 increase over his current deal. Perreault is entering the last year of that deal a 3 year 9 million dollar one.

Perreault has been untilized in many situations for the Jets and is often referred to as a verstile or utility forward. He's capable at playing a 200 foot game and is a possession driver. Most Jets have far better stats whe on the ice with him.

What makes this signing good is there were sure to be suitors for Perreault of he was to go UFA after next season and the Jets retain him at a very fair value. Is it another sign of the Jets beginning to attract UFAs, as Perreault was 2 years ago,and retain them? Perhaps the view of Winnipeg from the outside is changing, or perhaps some players simply like what's going on there and want to be a part of it.

Needless to say this deal should be heralded by Jets fans.
