NHL Draft Day: Jets Version

With the Jets swapping picks with Vegas’ acquisition of the Columbus pick who can they expect to see at #24 overall? Things have changed for the Jets now that they have given up a top second third pick in the draft for the bottom third while protecting players such as Marko Dano and Toby Enstrom.

The twist here is that the Jets clearly have their eye on some players and as GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said in a recent interview post-expansion draft was that he has been in touch with some teams who might be interested in moving down. Where that point is within the draft order remains to be seen, as does the situation where that option might become reality.

That being said, the Jets, as they should, have a plan and appear ready to take a shot at executing it should the correct situation unfold. However the chance remains that they could simply pick at #24, so what does that look like?

Most sites have not updated the swap of picks so it gets a bit funky trying to predict. It’s not likely the Jets would take the same player the Blue Jackets would at #24.

Compared to the previous list that was presented in this space one can see the consensus is far from consistent. In fact it’s all over the map and that’s probably what the Jets feel as they readjust to life at #24. Looking at the information Chevy provided about the option of moving up the best guesstimate for a player is one of the defence prospects dropping to a point where he can move up and grab them.

Who that might be is a good guess but the hopes of getting Valimaki now seem thin and fans are left to hope that one of Brannstrom or Hague fall far enough that Winnipeg can grab them.

As for trades? Well we know anything can happen and when it does the Jets are usually on the outside looking in while at the draft. I’d expect more of the same this year too and that’s simply the team’s MO so don’t expect much more.
