Were you impressed with Josh Morrissey last night? Perhaps the 4-1 win(5-1 really) deceived the those with the eye test but last night the young defence man struggled. In fairness so did much of the team. The Jets were out-corsi'd but they won the game and maybe the bigger story in that game is the play of Connor Hellebuyck, the cool and unflappable goalie entering his 2nd year with the Jets, or hopefully so.

Morrissey, pair with Tyler Myers, had a less than stellar evening when looking at possession data but in the end the shots were bang on even at the final horn. The score wasn't though with the Jets getting a 4-1 win. Kyle Connor made his debut getting a goal on maybe the best pass of Mark Stuart's career. Nik Ehlers may have had the highlight goal with a devious wrap around that only he saw go in past Kemper.

Watch it HERE

The best part of that was watching Ehlers getting the puck at his own blue line and deceptively moving down the left side before accelerating and leaving Dumba in his snow. That's what Ehlers is known for and if he has come to camp with more muscle and maturity, this could be a very interesting season for the young Dane.

Tonight though marks the third consecutive game for Morrissey, Copp and Tanev. That's telling and it's something that should say as much to the players as it does the fans; the Jets want to see these players in many scenarios to see who is ready and able to shoulder the load of NHL calibre play. Cops surely has an edge over the other too and I suspect he is being observed with different expectations, mainly offensive as he began to show what skills he has later last season.

For the other two it's no secret what opportunity is apparent for Morrissey but what about Tanev? He had a limited bit of time with the Jets last year and their must be something that the coaches want to keep looking at. Perhaps it's his PK work as he had the most minutes in that role last night, double what he saw versus Calgary.

The roster tonight is as follows:

Hutchinson

Enstrom Byfuglien
Morrissey Postma
Melchiori Kostalek

Connor Scheifele Wheeler
Laine Petan Armia
Burmistrov Lowry Tanev
Howden De Leo Thorburn

Obviously all eyes will be on Laine but again watch the Morrissey Postma pairing and don't forget to keep an eye on Kyle Connor too with Scheifele as his set up man.

Game is only available on Radio or TSN Go app due to the Bombers football game.
