Jets lay another egg with vet roster

Did you like what you saw?

That's not what I was hearing within the walls of the Bell MTS Centre last night. There were no positives coming from the fans who I heard speaking during the game and amongst the throngs who left early to avoid the inevitable traffic rush.

Last night, again with a loaded line-up compared to the opposition the Winnipeg Jets laid a bigger egg than they did against the Minnesota Wild on Monday night. Don't let the idea that a 'preseason game' means nothing, it has meaning it's the results that mean little.

For the glass half-full crowd there were five posts or crossbars hit by the Jets and one early by Hendricks that could have opened the scoring. There's a positive right?

The basic fact is simply this: there is a major fundamental problem in the defensive system the Jets play or the personnel who are there in implement it. This goes for penalty kill as well, something that is so passive one would think it it say's 'thank you' to the opposition for not shooting the puck well.

Make no mistake about blame here- this is no longer about the players. This is about the coaches getting through to them, building a system that works with their skill, developing the right combination to be used at the right times, and whatever else you think is missing, there's certainly enough things to add to the list.

Frankly it's time that fans become a bit more frustrated in the sparkling newly renovated building the Jets call home. While nice and stylish the building like the team lacks substance. All icing and no cake.

When is that same level of dedication and funds allocation going to go into the most impactful part of team and one that does not count against the salary cap? The coaching group. It needs help and it's obvious. Between Kompton, Maurice and Huddy certainly one of them must see by now how inept the PP system is. Clearly the thought of being supplanted by youth is not enough motivation for some on the team so why not put that same pressure on the coaches? Hard to do that when the internal candidate who is head coach for the farm team is simply a retread from the NHL team.

Coaches too need to be treated like players, pressure from within and on all sides, and certainly with this organization.

For those who suggest that I'm being harsh- what more is there to say as the Jets enter their 7th season with the same glaring issues that have existed for all but one year? Why does this get swept under the rug in the name of 'preseason games'?

I'll leave you with this and you tell me why the heat should not be on right now?
