It's so quiet that even the fish aren't biting at Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff's bait as he sits on the dock at his Lake of the Woods cottage watching the dog days of summer go by. Sure there are things to be done, but for all intensive purposes there's nothing going on with the team and that apparently includes a contract for Jacob Trouba.

That's to be expected and now it's time to think about some other topics in regards to the team. When it comes to that, I've got nothing. It's mid-August and there's really nothing to discuss unless something happens with the team.

On of the things I think will be interesting to watch as we inch towards training camp is the 23 and under team at the World Cup of hockey and in this case Jacob Trouba. What if he steps up and lights it up a bit under a different system and coach? How will his partner affect his game there and should the Jets take notice?

What do you think the Las Vegas team should be called? I wonder if the league really wants something associated with gambling whether it be a card game or card, a some reference to the home city of the franchise? I don't believe the league wants that reference in a name and if they are doing some interesting marketing studies to provide options away from the obvious linkage to gambling.

Is anyone feeling any buzz for the World Cup of Hockey now that we are half way through the Olympics? I've got nothing. I love the Olympics, winter or summer, but it's certainly not getting me umped up for national pride for yet another fabricated hockey event.

Speaking of those fabricated hockey events one has to wonder how well the tickets for Heritage Classic are selling when True North offered a second option to buy tickets to season ticket holders. I've always been a bit suspicious about the venue when it comes to hockey as a CFL field is far wider than an NHL one and the rink will be very far from the stands. To exacerbate the problem Investors Group Field in Winnipeg has a pretty flat pitch for the lower level seats and if you are in them the sight lines will be terrible in my opinion. But hey, that's just my opinion man.

So let's kill some time before we get into training camp and prospects tournaments stuff, ask away and I'll try to answer them in upcoming blogs to fill the time and space.

What do you want to know/discuss?
