Hutchinson Signs 2 year Deal |

The Jets just announced a two-year deal for back-up goaltender Michael Hutchinson with an AAV of 1.15 million per season. It is believed this is a one way deal as well but what is the fall out for the Jets with the upcoming expansion draft?
At first blush with Pavelec set to be a UFA after this season and free to go where he wants or gets offered a deal it would appear the Jets are confident in retaining Hutchinson. They should be and nor should they worry if he was taken in the expansion draft. There are a lot of Michael Hutchinsons available to NHL teams and Jets fans should not feat if it is Hellebuyck who is protected and not Hutchinson.
There are also 29 other teams who have to manage the same situation too so there's only a one in 30 chance he is taken. Correct me if I'm wrong there.
According the great site
General Fanager teams have to expose at least one goalie who is under contract for the 17-18 or an RFA at the end of the 2016-17 season. That's why the Jets needed to sign Hutchinson or anyone to fill that hole. It's good for the goalie as he gets some short term stability and can continue his roots in Winnipeg as he has just bought a new house and a rather fancy car too.
What this likely means is Connor Hellebuyck is going up and down from the minors based on conditions this year with the two starters. He is an RFA this off season and will likely looking for some rather large dollars for his play and his patience.
Does this spell the end for Pavelec? Probably, and if he cannot be unloaded this offseason or during the season, which would be rather unlikely, it seems destined that the Jets are comfortable losing Hutchinson and finding a replacement outside the organization or from within.
