This came across my twitter feed today:

Heatley to Jets?

It was courtesy of Travis Hrubeniuk FORMERLY of Jetsnation.ca, now one of the Jesters at arcticicehockey.com- a good follow for all Jets fans.

Then poof, it was gone.

This is the same thing that happened with Matt Halischuk last year and how his small deal was found. Is Dany Heatley really joining the team he was originally drafted by? Talk about a reversal of fortune.

Heatley is a LW and a former 50 goal scorer but in recent years that goal scoring touch has left him. More troubling his ability to drive play is getting ugly too. In fact Heatley is getting crushed on possession and against less than stellar competition as seen HERE

This may be a cheap deal, if it happens but is it a risky one? In short, yes.

The Wild all but made another former high scoring forward a shadow of himself and that is former Jet Devon Setoguchi. While putting the blame entirely on the Wild may see a bit harsh look at their roster and style of game. The tactics employed by Yeo make bland look exciting.

The common denominator here is that both Heatley and Setoguchi thrived when having a strong playmakers as seen HERE

A quick explanation shows that when Heatley was with any of Spezza, Thornton or Marleau he was helping them push play and making them positive possesion players, which is a good thing. However get closer to recent history and the center he has played with most in Minnesota, Miko Koivu. He jumped from below 49% corsi to 51.9% when apart from Healtey.

As it wound down for Healtey in San Jose a glimmer of what he would become was showing. When playing with Couture, he weighed him down like an anchor for a oil tanker as when apart Couture's possession went up by 5%!

So where does he fit with Winnipeg?

If the Jets are true to what they have us believing Healtey is that 'top-6' forward who will play on the line that is made up 7th 8th and 9th ranked players on the team. Heatley, Perreault and Buff could be the third line. Seems to me that line has a lot of odd-man rushes setting up for Pavelec which is not a good thing unless Buff is moved up and Frolik is moved down.

Some might say for Frolik that going from Little and Ladd to playing along with Heatley is akin to going from the penthouse to the outhouse.

Regardless this is all speculation based on a screen shot, but one the Jets have already made the mistake of showing before things were finalized. We should know soon.
