Wow

The word “wow!” can be really overused… but it is the only exclamation that can describe Filip Forsberg’s last two games. Two games, two hat tricks, and two runs on local Lids locations to replace what has been thrown on the ice over the past three days. Last night’s 4-2 win over Colorado wasn’t pretty, but 2 points is 2 points.

The line of Ryan Johansen / Viktor Arvidsson and Filip Forsberg has been dominant at times. Forsberg is deservedly getting the headlines, but don’t discount the setups… Johansen has been outstanding, adding two assists last night, one on a face off win and one on a sweet set up. Arvidsson has been the spark plug, the Weeble of the line that just doesn’t give up. It has been a lethal combination for Nashville, generating 12 points (7g, 5a) in the last three games.

Give Colorado full marks, they played a very good hockey game last night. The Av’s never let up and, at times, imposed their will on the Preds. It’s popular to say that the Preds were playing not to lose in the third period, but that is taking credit from a proud hockey team that pushed the play in the third period. Give the team credit for surviving the push and give Pekka Rinne credit for battling through and making a couple of solid stops to keep the lead at one through most of the third period.

So let’s get to the good, the bad and the ugly of last night’s game…
The Good - The very, very good… Filip Forsberg and the top line of Johansen / Arvidsson / Forsberg that is clicking on all cylinders and was responsible for all the scoring last night.

The Bad - Mike Fisher reallllly struggled in the faceoff circle last night, going 3-15.

The Ugly - That second period goal from Patrick Wiercioch… Rinne will have nightmares about that one for years.

Back-to-back home games this weekend, Washington on Saturday and Edmonton on Sunday… very limited tickets remain for both.

Random Notes

- Where We Stand – After yesterday’s play, the Nashville Predators have 67 points in 60 games played and are 4th in the Central Division. Nashville is tied in points with 3rd place St. Louis. Both the Blues and Preds have played 60 games, the next tiebreaker is ROW where the Blues have a 3 game lead. Nashville has the first wild card slot, Calgary has the second. Per sportsclubstats.com, the Predators playoff chances are at 82.9%...

- The Predators next two opponents face off tonight in DC. Catching Washington on the back end of a back-to-back won’t hurt… however, Edmonton gets the same benefit on Sunday. The game is on NHL Network with a 6pm CT start time.

- Last night’s win completed a season sweep over the Av’s and was the sixth straight win over Colorado overall.

- Ryan Johansen’s performance over the past few games has vaulted him into the top 20 for assists, tied with Jamie Benn, Jakub Voracek and Joe Thorton. Johansen is only two assists shy of top 10 in the league.

- Four games in the NHL tonight, all times CST – 6pm – EDM @ WSH. 6:30pm – OTT @ CAR, CGY @ FLA. 7:30pm – ARI @ DAL.
