I’ve been processing Saturday night’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Blackhawks for a couple of days now and I am still not happy about how the game was decided. A blown call on a play that all four officials on the ice should’ve seen? It’s not like the focus of play was going in the opposite direction… grrrr…

Oh well… sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you… it sure was nice to not hear that ridiculous goal scoring song for almost ten months… one point is better than coming out with zero and frankly, it was the most complete game the Predators have played so far this season.

And it was kinda nice to see the Blackhawks chase the Preds for once...

Week 3 of this young season sees a single game at Bridgestone Arena, tomorrow night against the surprising Colorado Avalanche, who have started out 4-2-0 with wins over the New York Rangers, back-to-back wins over Boston and a win over Anaheim. The Predators then take a quick trip to the northeast for a return match against the Philadelphia Flyers then a matinee on Saturday at MSG to take on the Rangers… is it just me or does it seem like there are a LOT of Eastern Conference teams on the calendar in October?

The Flyers will be looking for payback after last Thursday insane 6-5 loss in Smashville. The team was not happy about the result and lots of reports have various members of the Flyers abusing doors and other hockey equipment post-game. The trip to Madison Square Garden will be an interesting one. The Rangers are 1-5-0 as I write this and have games against Pittsburgh and the Islanders before Nashville hits the Big Apple.

New York is already in a 1-5 hole, considering that 10 of their first 13 games are being played at the Garden, they cannot waste any time righting the ship; or their season could be over by the time Vegas makes their first visit to New York on Halloween. You can’t waste almost 25% of your home schedule like that and the Rangers are in danger of doing just that.

The Predators practice today… game time tomorrow is 7pm, limited tickets available.

ICYMI – Here is Saturday’s SlapShot Radio…

P.K. Subban takes his fair share of grief (mostly from jealous NBC commentators) but you have to admit, he does give back… and he gives back in very impactful ways. The story of his $10 million commitment to the children’s hospital in Montreal is legendary, he got active in Nashville immediately and now comes an effort that may have its biggest impact yet… P.K.’s Blueline Buddies. It’s a program designed to bring together underprivileged youth and police officers in an environment designed to “build bridges in our community.”

The most telling quote in the article about this program on the Preds website is this…
"In this world, there are bad people and there are good people," Subban said. "We can either choose to celebrate the bad ones all the time, or we can celebrate the good ones. I think it's important to build people up and to make people feel good."

Good on ya P.K. … it’s time we all take the time to celebrate the good people and the good things that are happening in our community and our world.

It’s a small thing… but real change is built on these kinds of small things.

Random Notes

- Injury Update – Roman Josi and Yannick Weber are both listed as day-to-day. Josi accompanied the team to Chicago and participated in day-of-game skate but did not go against the Blackhawks. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back in the lineup against Colorado. Weber may be a little bit longer from a return perspective.

- The questions are floating… will Samuel Girard stick in Nashville? If he keep s playing like he is… ummm, yup! Especially if the blueline keeps taking injuries like it has so far. The biggest advantage to Girard is his style of play is very similar to Ryan Ellis, while Ellis is on the shelf, Girard will have a full chance to spend the full season in Nashville.

- Plenty of pressure is building in Edmonton as a 1-3 start has started a bit of a media frenzy, especially after Ottawa’s blowout win at Rogers Center on Saturday night. That was the Oilers third straight loss after winning their opener.

- Apparently, the NHL and NHLPA are looking at scrapping the All-Star Game, according to Chris Johnson of Sportsnet. They are looking at a potential event overseas to help continue to grow the brand in Europe.

- Wow… Greg Wyshynski leaves and Yahoo’s NHL coverage goes to hell in a handbasket quick. The last original piece on the site was posted Friday… it’s a shame to see it go down so quickly.

- KHL Watch – Eeli Tolvanen’s Jokerit club has now won 14 in a row, beating Salavat Yulaev 2-0 yesterday with Tolvanen posting an assist. Tolvanen has 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 17 games so far. Jokerit plays Ak Bars tomorrow as they go for the 15th consecutive win.
