For forty minutes of play yesterday afternoon, everything seemed normal at Bridgestone Arena, the Predators had one of their normal second periods, ending it with 4-1 over the New Jersey Devils, Kevin Fiala was looking for his first hat trick for the second time this season and all was right with the world.

It’s a shame that games are 60 minutes long.

:55 seconds into the third period, it was a 4-3 game and Bridgestone Arena was stunned into highly uncharacteristic silence as Michael Cammaleri and Andy Greene got the Devils back in the game with two quick goals. Then, despite Nashville dominating play, Adam Henrique ties it up on a power play goal with 7 and a half minutes to play. The game then goes to OT… Nashville completely controls the play for a little over four minutes of overtime.

It’s a shame that overtime is five minutes long.

OK… lesson learned for this young team… there is no taking your foot off the gas, not even for a minute. It is fortuitous that Nashville has a quick turnaround as the home back-to-back really helps in these types of situations. No time to over think it… learn the lesson, take the point and apply it starting at 5pm today against Philadelphia.

The Flyers come into Bridgestone Arena on a serious roll, their win over Chicago yesterday was their 4th straight as they jumped on the Blackhawks quick on Wells Fargo Center ice. The Flyers were sparked by young up and coming defenseman Ivan Proverov who potted two goals and made several outstanding plays in the win. The 19 year old plays well beyond his years and is the defenseman Philly fans have been dying to have for years, a perfect complement to Shane Gostisbehere.

In net, Steve Mason has been on a bit of a roll, posting a .946 save percentage in his last three starts, all of them ended up in the win column for Philly. Not sure if Mason goes this afternoon or backup Anthony Stolarz, a 22 year old New Jersey native who is the author of one NHL decision, a win. In net for the Preds… not sure as well. This back-to-back is an odd one for Nashville, more than 24 hours between games and no travel involved. I wouldn’t be surprised to see either Rinne or Juuse Saros go today.

On the offensive side of the puck, both teams are averaging more than 3 goals a game, yesterday’s Flyers win finally pulling that team’s season goal differential back to 0. Nashville’s injuries haven’t seemed to slow down the offense, Kevin Fiala has picked up some of the slack and the defense continues to be lethal offensively.

Should be a good one tonight… game time is 5pm. Limited tickets remain.

Random Notes

- The Predators were busy off the ice as well yesterday, claiming forward Reid Boucher from the Devils off waivers. Adam Pardy was also recalled and on the ice for warmups as well but ended up scratched. Boucher has appeared in nine games from NJ, posting 2 assists so far this season.

- Not very good news for Miikka Salomaki, after playing a single game for Milwaukee on his conditioning assignment, the 23 year old forward was recalled, and promptly placed back on IR.

- Last night’s OTL did give the Preds a point, which moved them back into playoff position as play begins today.

- At today's game the proshop will be selling t-shirts to raise money for families affected by the fires in East Tennessee. Shirts are $20 and 100% will go back to the cause.
